Did You Know That Some Gion Tours Do Not Visit Shirakawa?
Some Gion tours begin in the busy entertainment district, where the meeting point is easy to find and convenient for visitors.
Our meeting point is a little less obvious — and there is an important reason for that.
We know Gion well, and we genuinely want our guests to experience the beauty, atmosphere, and character that make this historic district so special.
We believe that Gion Shirakawa is an essential part of that experience, and that the true charm of Gion cannot be fully appreciated without visiting it.
With its willow-lined canal, traditional wooden townhouses, stone bridges, and softly illuminated streets, Gion Shirakawa is frequently used as a filming location for movies, TV dramas, and commercials, making it one of Kyoto’s most iconic and photogenic locations.
That is why we choose to begin near the peaceful Shirakawa Canal, rather than at a more obvious meeting point in the busiest part of the district.
Here, you can walk beside traditional machiya houses and cross the picturesque Tatsumi Bridge. Especially after dark, this beautifully preserved area reveals a quieter and more elegant side of Kyoto, offering some of the most memorable scenery and photo opportunities on the tour.
By starting here, we can introduce you to Gion in the way we believe it deserves to be experienced — beginning with its beauty and atmosphere before continuing through its famous streets and lesser-known corners.
Our meeting point may take a few extra minutes to find, but we believe the best Gion experience should begin in the right place.

Look for our guide waiting beside the red umbrella. If you are arriving by taxi, simply tell the driver “Kyoto Gion Japanese BBQ Wagyuyakiniku TOKU,” they should be able to take you there.
